The neighborhood kids are all out playing in the snow that has been falling steadily in our area for going on 8 hours now. Currently, there is a snow woman (wearing a skirt), and two snow forts on the west lawn area of the complex. The kids have been working on it steadily for more than 3 hours, and Twink has now been out twice. We are going to have to get her another winter coat this year, along with snow boots and pants. The one we got last year, thinking it would last 2 years, didnapos;t. She has gotten so tall that the bottom of the waist band on the coat barely reaches to her waist, and the hood only covers the back half of her head. Indian summer comes back during the week - at least for a few days, so all the snow - and work - of today will be gone soon, but the kids are having fun. By next weekend, down south will be back to the mid-80apos;s, so Gentry, Carrie, Lachlan, Elleri, Mom, and Aurora will have perfect weather for their trip to Capitol Reef for the UEA weekend. Carl has a Mountain-Con trustees meeting on Thursday, so I will pretty much have that day entirely to myself. Woot Friday, too - most of it, anyway - will be a solo day, but I have to use that one to get ready for the SOM here that night. And Carl will be bringing Steven up for the weekend. Due to the arrangements that have been made, Steven will be with us for 3 weekends in a row. Joy.
I found out yesterday that my drill still works, I just had to turn the tightening collar in the correct direction. DOH
Anyway, that bit of good news means I can make the screen to go in Stevenapos;s room. For the time being, we are using 1/3 of the room and 1/2 of the closet for on-site storage of the boxes we are currently sorting through, so they donapos;t all have to be in the front room and dining room. But, Steven has a long history of getting in and helping himself to things that are not his, regardless of whether or not he has been given permission, or even bothered to ask. So, in order to keep snooping - and resultant breakage and/or loss, and apos;borrowingapos; - to a minimum, a screen is going up to divide "our" area from Stevenapos;s personal area.
Well, Iapos;ve got lots of laundry to get to, not to mention unpacking or moving several more boxes, so, without further ado, here is todayapos;s blessing. Day 31: Diamond in the Rough.
Hello from my heart to yours
A young man discovered a rather large rough diamond while prospecting in an Arkansas diamond field, and eagerly took the stone to an expert gemologist for assessment. "I think if this is cut as it should be, this diamond may be about three carats in size and of flawless quality," he told the expert as he showed the stone. "But I know so little. Can you tell me whether or not Iapos;m right?"The gemologist studied the rough diamond for a few minutes and then instructed the young man to go to the library and do as much research on diamonds as he possibly could.
The younger man did so, returning a few hours later to report that he had done as told.
"Do you still think the diamond is perfect?" the gemologist asked. "More than ever" the young man replied.
"Then I donapos;t mind telling you youapos;re right. Your diamond does indeed show the characteristics of a nearly perfect specimen and after cutting, should be about three carats in weight."
The young man was puzzled. "Then why didnapos;t you just tell me that instead of asking me to go to the library?"
"Because itapos;s your own judgment you need to trust," the gemologist said, "not mine. Whether you are dealing with diamonds or even life itself, you should listen to what your instinct tells you, not be dependent upon what others say. Donapos;t go through life expecting somebody else to tell you what you need to know. Become your own expert instead."
The young man thought a moment about what the gemologist said and then smiled. He was beginning to understand that what he had inside himself was worth far more than the diamond he held in his hand.
For the next 30 days weapos;re going to be mining the depths of our nature, blasting past every barrier and blockage to unearth, cut and polish the diamond in the rough that is consciousness. Along the way, youapos;ll be introduced to a few "experts" who will share various techniques for breaking down whatever resistance to prosperity you may hold.
But what I would like you to take away from todayapos;s message is the realization that no expert alive can help you as much as you can help yourself. Right now youapos;ve got a diamond in the rough mindset. As you begin to acknowledge your inner being, your limited thinking, your useless fears and feelings of unworthiness, then those will be cut away, revealing the stronger, more positive facets of your nature, and allowing the light within the core of your being to shine.
But in order to truly glow, that light must first be fed. This is done through diligent reading, discussing your thoughts and questions with like-minded others, and gradually growing more self-aware.
Right now, the diamond within you is beginning to sparkle. In many ways, youapos;re feeling better about yourself and your world. At least, if nothing else, youapos;ve proved that you can hang in there and that in its self puts you ahead of the majority. Youapos;re already a winner by anyoneapos;s standards. But please donapos;t be lulled into thinking that now that youapos;ve come this far you can slacken your efforts. Just the opposite. Now the time has come to step up to a higher reward.
For the next 60 days, I encourage you to make an extra effort with the Prosperity Experiment. From this point forward, donapos;t just settle for trying. Now is the time to dig deep within yourself and grab hold of that sacred resolve you didnapos;t even know you had. You have it. Now is the time to use it. This is second-wind time: the time when you push against the wall and refuse to let anything or anyone stop you. This is now or never time.
But donapos;t worry. Youapos;re not alone. Youapos;ll find plenty of like-minded participants in the forums ready to provide the support you need and, in return, youapos;ll find others who need the kind of encouragement only you can give.
Youapos;ll also find inspiration in the daily messages. Thatapos;s what theyapos;re here for. If you donapos;t have the time to read them daily, then print them out and read them when you can. But do read them. Not because I wrote them, but because theyapos;re designed to help you get through the rough spots.
And above all else, learn to know yourself better. Your Inner Being is the greatest expert you will ever have. But before you can take advantage of your inner storehouse of wisdom, you have to be willing to know that part of yourself and know it well. Only in knowing can you learn to trust yourself completely.
When we choose the easy way, letting others do our thinking for us, then eventually we end up doing everything the hard way. When we are brave enough to choose the hard way, the path that looks the most difficult, the most impossible to follow, the path that depends on our connection to self, then a wonderful thing happens.
We find weapos;ve come the easiest way of all.
